How To Wash Your Wax Canvas Bag

Sometimes you might get some dirt or stains on your bag that you would like to remove. In this article, we show you the best ways to remove stains without ruining your favorite bag. However, before we get to that, we need to let you know what not to do.

DO NOT:

  • Machine wash
  • Machine dry
  • Dry clean
  • Use detergent
  • Use warm or hot water

If you do any of these five methods, you will likely ruin your bag because this will remove the wax coating and compromise the finish, making the bag less water-resistant. Instead, try any of these tips:

DO:

  • Ensure the bag is dry; then with a soft bristle brush, gently brush the dirt off the bag.
  • Apply a small amount of non-detergent soap (e.g. Dove soap) and cold water, gently scrub the stain and rinse with cold water and air dry.
  • For an oil-based stain, try using mixture of cornstarch and cold water rubbed into the affected area. Let the cornstarch sit for 48 hours, and use a brush to rub the stain away. Apply again if necessary until the oil stain has disappeared.

Gently cleaning any waxed canvas bag this way will clean away spots without damaging the wax coating on the canvas. It is also important to note not to wash your wax canvas bag too often. Our bags want to be used, and the more they are used, the more character they have, so take that adventure!
