Well we think we figured it out. Waxed canvas and top grain leather fit the bill and both only get better with age.
Featuring two magnetic closure front pockets, an interior zip pocket, a small interior zip pocket and a back zip pocket. The adjustable removable shoulder strap means the bag can be used as a messenger or briefcase.

We stand behind our products. Our two-year guarantee covers defects in materials (leather, rivets, zippers and such) and workmanship for two years from the date of purchase. Products covered by this limited warranty are repaired or replaced at no charge. Wear and tear from normal use, such as worn edges or creasing of leather are not defects in materials or workmanship, and are not covered. Final sale and factory second merchandise is not covered by our two-year guarantee.

This briefcase is not only attractive but extremely well made. I had purchased one of these previously for myself and I purchased this one as a gift for someone starting out in the workforce. The canvas is of high quality and the leather trim and straps add to the functionality and the beauty. It has one large compartment for a laptop and other smaller compartments for whatever you need to carry. The strap closures are secured by magnets so you don't have to buckle and unbuckle every time you need to open the main compartment. The only thing that would make this better is if the main compartment for the laptop was padded. I purchased a neoprene sleeve to fit inside for mine and it works well. Otherwise, absolutely wonderful, functional and attractive and it will be with you a long time. It will last and probably acquire a nice patina with age.

Not very satisfied as the bag came with black leather accents instead of the brown that I thought I was getting. Straps have made marks on the canvas bag that will not wipe off. Quality looks pretty good but did mot get what was ordered.
