What is a Dopp Kit?

When traveling, whether you are taking a weekend trip or a week-long trip, having a place to store your toiletry supplies is essential. Keeping all your toiletries in one place ensures you are not unpacking your entire duffel to find your toothbrush, which ended up at the bottom of your bag. In addition, having some organization of your toiletries will make less of a headache for you.

History of the Dopp Kit

What is the history of the "Dopp Kit"? Who made it? Why is it called a "Dopp Kit" in the first place? It all started with a German leather-goods maker named Charles Dopplet. Dopplet immigrated to the U.S. where he started a business called "The Charles Dopplet Company." In 1919, with assistance from with nephew, they created the toiletry bag. Their company prospered, which the U.S. Army took notice of; leading up to WWII, they sent out toiletry bags to all the recruits. After that, the toiletry kits sky rocketed to popularity and became a product in every household, and they became known as "Dopps."
